Victor L. Davson is a visual artist. He received a BFA from Pratt Institute and has exhibitedbwidely throughout the northeast United States. His work has been included in exhibitions inbEngland, France, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. He is represented in the permanent collections of The National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba, National Collection of Fine Arts, Guyana, Newark Museum of Art, Montclair Art Museum, New Jersey State Museum and Morris Museum. His awards include a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant; a Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper fellowship; a J. Paul Getty Trust Scholarship; three New Jersey State Council on the Arts fellowships and a Creative Catalyst Award from the City of Newark.

Davson is a co-founder of Aljira, a Center for contemporary Art, a vital hub for creative excellence in Newark’s downtown arts district, and served as its founding director from 1983–2016. During his tenure at Aljira, the organization received a Citation of Excellence and was designated a Major Arts Institution by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. He is a graduate of The Getty Museum Management Institute program, studied organizational development at Babson School of Entrepreneurial Management and completed graduate work in nonprofit management at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study where his research interest was the arts, organizational and community development.
